You will have to pass new RTO driving test for licence

The process to issue driving licences will become faster and more transparent with the introduction of an Innovative Driving Testing System at RTOs across the State within a year. The camera-based system will ensure technology-oriented assessment of the driving quality of licenseseekers with minimal human intervention.

The current system is sensor-based, and the new system will allow for faster driving tests, reducing rush at RTOs. The Pune-based Central Institute of Road Transport will help in installing the automated system here.

Under the system, the cameras will be installed along the driving track. The applicant will be asked to drive the vehicle and his performance will be recorded on the camera and sensors.

Numbers based on the performance will be given to applicants automatically without human interference. The system will ensure that people with sound knowledge of traffic rules and adequate training only get the right to drive a vehicle. The system will ensure objective evaluation of applicants’ driving skills.

After completely recording the driving path, the system will compare it with appropriate best fit path and algorithms to reach to the final score. The score is computed based on standard direction followed, number of forward and reverse movements, standard division within limit, number of stoppages during test, identification of kerb hits, number of kerb hits, average speed and timely completion of test.

Transport Commissioner Rajesh Manjhu confirmed the development. Highly placed officials in Transport office confirmed the new system will be able to accommodate 30 per cent more applicants against the 250 processed currently.
