Driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates can be produced through mobile apps such as DigiLocker and mParivahan.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Vehicle owners don't need to carry physical copies of their DL and RC
  •  Union transport ministry last year asked states to facilitate acceptance of documents in electronic format
  • DLs and RCs can be produced through mobile apps such as DigiLocker and mParivahan

You may have heard of the hefty amount some vehicle owners have been charged under the newly amended Motor Vehicles Act.

What would you do if don't have your driving licence or a copy of your vehicle registration and you bump into a traffic police officer? The police may penalise you or detain your vehicle if you don't have a driving licence or a registration certificate for your vehicle, but not if you are carrying electronic copies of them.

Vehicle owners do not need to carry physical copies of their driving licences (DL) and registration certificates (RC) since the Union transport ministry, last year, asked states to facilitate acceptance of driving licence and other documents including vehicle registration certificates in electronic format.
Driving licences and vehicle registration certificates can be produced through mobile apps such as DigiLocker and mParivahan.

This would not only save you from the apparent hard work of carrying the hard copies of your driving license and vehicle registration certificate, carrying documents in apps like DigiLocker and mParivahan also helps you in avoiding the hefty amount of fines imposed for not carrying the documents.
