Indian roads are among the most notorious in the world as it claims over 1.5 lakh lives each year and most of it is due to people's lack of traffic sense. From Sunday (September 1) onwards, higher traffic penalties have come into effect across the country for those found to be violating the traffic rules.
A new section 199 A has been introduced; according to which if a juvenile is caught driving a vehicle, his guardian and the owner of the vehicle would be deemed guilty. A steep fine of Rs 25,000, with imprisonment up to three years, would be levied on such defaulters.
