MG Astor: India's first SUV with level 2 autonomous driving technology

The much-awaited MG Astor SUV is officially unveiled in India on September 15, 2021. Prices of the compact SUV will be announced before Diwali.

MG Motor India has officially unveiled the highly-awaited Astor compact SUV in the India. This will be the fourth product from the brand in the country and will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq.

Exterior

Some of the distinctive feature highlights include automatic emergency braking, cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, Intelligent Headlamp Control (IHC), Rear Drive Assist (RDA), and speed assist system.  

Interior and features

The Astor will also get a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a JIo e-SIM for in car connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Moreover, the Astor will debut with technologically advanced features such as customised AI assistant, which understands natural language, supports up to 35 Hinglish voice commands and answer queries from online sources.

It also features JioSaavn app to stream music and industry first feature of reserving a parking slot through a head-unit (powered by Park+).

Some of the distinctive feature highlights include automatic emergency braking, cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, Intelligent Headlamp Control (IHC), Rear Drive Assist (RDA), and speed assist system.  

Engine

Under the hood, MG is expected to offer 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which churns out 120 hp and 150 Nm of torque. It also provides 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine option that produces 163 hp and 230 Nm of torque. It will come mated with multiple transmission options including a 6-speed manual and an optional CVT.

Price and Competition

The prices for the new model is expected to be announced close to Diwali. It will compete against the likes of Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq,  Hyundai Creta and Volkswagen Taigun.
